Callely presents certificates to Senior Athletes
Mr Ivor Callely TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Services for Older People, today (14 May 2003) congratulated Ireland´s three successful competitors at the European Senior Games held in Ghent, Belgium last month.
“We have had Ronnie Delaney, Eamon Coughlan, John Treacy to name but a few. Now we have Gerry Smith (96 years, Gold medal 1500 metres), Monica Grey and Carmel Kennedy (Bronze medals -Badminton). I would like to recognise your outstanding achievements,” said Minister Callely.
The Minister, on a visit to the Summerhill Active Retirement Group, Summerhill, Co Meath, presented certificates of merit to the athletes and emphasised the link between health and well-being and meaningful participation in life after retirement.
