Callely Launches “LISTEN! The Experiences of Minority Ethnic Women living with HIV” Report
Mr. Ivor Callely, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children today, (1 December 2003) launched Cáirde´s “LISTEN! The Experiences of Minority Ethnic Women living with HIV” Report.
The report, which is part of Cáirde´s Women Health Action Programme explores women´s reasons for coming to Ireland, their experiences and difficulties in terms of accommodation, safety, employment and money, education and training, and health and health services and it shows that women have the skills and capacity to address the difficulties they face.
Launching the report, Minister Callely paid tribute to the Women´s Health Action Programme and all involved in Cáirde, who work to reduce health inequalities among ethnic minorities.
“With the support of Cáirde, Women´s Health Action Programme will continue to make a valuable contribution to Irish Society to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This is particularly important on the occasion of today being World AIDS Day 2003” stated the Minister.
The Minister also stated that “successful partnerships, involving people with HIV, statutory bodies and voluntary sector agencies, has been an integral part of the development of appropriate responses to HIV/AIDS”
