Callely encourages communities to unite
The Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Mr. Ivor Callely TD, has today (1st September 2003) encouraged communities to unite and work together to be pro-active in the promotion and appreciation of older age.
“Ireland is a small country, which has achieved success beyond measure and certainly beyond the expected capacity of a nation this size. Through the efforts of previous generations, the Irish economy is at the healthy level we enjoy today. Our success has truly been built on the shoulders of giants and added to, in no small measure, by our well-educated population.”
“As Minister for Older People, I believe that the UN International Day on Ageing (1st October) will provide everyone in our country with a terrific opportunity to highlight the very positive and extraordinary contribution that older people have made, and continue to make, in our society.”
Minister Callely encouraged communities to unite and work together to be pro-active in the promotion and appreciation of older age.
“Many older people´s organisations throughout Ireland will be holding events and activities in their communities to mark, celebrate and promote their own positive attitude to ageing. I would encourage everyone to come out in support of these organisations and join with them.” Concluded Minister Callely.
