Assistance Given by the Department of Health and Children to the Planning and Management of the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2003
The Minister for Health and Children, Mr Micheál Martin T.D. today (25 July 2001) announced that his Department has agreed to meet the costs associated with the secondment of seven health services employees to work with Special Olympics World Summer Games 2003 in the planning and management of both the Pre-Games in 2002 and the Summer Games in 2003.
The Minister said that, while the health services in general will be playing a major role in the organisation and management of the Games, this was the Department’s direct contribution to assist Special Olympics World Summer Games 2003. All seven individuals have extensive experience within the Special Olympics movement and this background knowledge will be invaluable in the preparations which are well underway for both the Pre-Games and Summer Games.
