Appointment of Chairman of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland
Ms Mary Harney, TD, Minister for Health and Children, today (Friday, 16 March 2007) announced the appointment of Mr Eamonn Ryan, a former senior official of the IDA, as Chairman of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) in succession to Dr Danny O’Hare.
The Minister said ‘Eamonn Ryan has broad experience of the public sector and of business. Until recently he served as Executive Director-International of the IDA where he was based in New York. His responsibilities included the leadership and management of the total IDA international operations in the USA, Europe and Asia/ Pacific. This background makes him an ideal choice for this important role.’
The Minister also paid tribute to Dr Danny O’Hare, the former chairman:she said ‘Dr O’Hare’s contribution to the Board of the FSAI was extremely valuable and I wish to pay tribute to him for discharging that duty so effectively.’
The Minister also noted that Mr Pat O’Mahony, the Chief Executive of the Irish Medicines Board, has recently been appointed to fill a vacancy on the FSAI Board. Mr O’Mahony previously worked as a Director in the Authority.
