Calorie Counts on Menus in Restaurants

Calories on menus helps people make healthier and informed choices. It is one initiative among others which can help halt the rising levels of overweight and obesity

The Minister for Health asked the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) to carry out a national consultation on the issue read the results here.  It found that over 95% of consumers in Ireland want calories on menus.

The Minister for Health called on all food service businesses to display the calorie content of food and drinks offered on their menus and the programme is being introduced on a voluntary basis, at first.
