Proposals for a Human Tissue Bill
Mary Harney, T.D., Minister for Health and Children, today (Thursday, 9th April), announced the commencement of a public consultation on proposals for a Human Tissue Bill.
The consultation document sets out proposals to regulate the removal, retention, storage, use and disposal of human tissue from deceased persons, and consent for the use of donated tissue from living persons for the purposes of transplantation and research.
The types of activities covered by the proposals include hospital post-mortem examinations and the use of organs and tissues for transplantation, research, anatomy and education.
The Department now wishes to invite interested parties to submit their views on this issue.
