Department of the Taoiseach Consultation on Sports Sponsorship by Alcohol Companies

See http://www.taoiseach.gov.ie/eng/News/Government_Press_Releases/Working_Group_Consultation_Sports_Sponsorship_by_Alcohol_Companies.html

Last October, the Government announced a package of measures to tackle alcohol misuse which are to be incorporated into a Public Health (Alcohol) Bill.

In the case of sponsorship of sports by alcohol companies, the Government agreed:

  • to place the existing voluntary code on a statutory footing,
  • to establish a working group to consider the value, evidence, feasibility and implications (including the public health consequences for children and young people and the financial impact on sporting organisations) of regulating sponsorship by alcohol companies of major sporting events,
  • that the working group would also consider the alternative sources of funding for sporting organisations to replace potential lost revenue arising from any such regulation.

To ensure that its work is as fully informed as possible, the Working Group wishes to have the views of and contributions from interested parties who can provide additional information on this complex issue. The Questions to be addressed are set out in the attached document. These are based on the Group’s work so far in examining the relevant information and data available as well as identifying information gaps and areas where further evidence\input is required.

Responses should be: written, evidence-based, giving additional information and specifically addressing some or all of the Questions posed. Submissions should be limited to a maximum of fifteen pages.

Submissions should be returned directly to this email address: consultation@taoiseach.gov.ie by Friday 6 June 2014. Please also use this mailbox for any further queries or clarifications.

You should also note that submissions received will be subject to Freedom of Information legislation and may be made publicly available.
