Appointments to the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland Council
The Minister for Health has appointed/re-appointed the following persons to the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland Council. These appointments are for the period from the 16th May 2018 to the 15th May 2022.
Mr Shane McCarthy
Mr McCarthy is re-appointed by the Minister to the Council of the PSI. He is a Solicitor and Notary Public residing in Clonakilty, Co. Cork. He holds BCL, LLB and MA degrees from University College Cork and is a member of the General Council of the Law Society of Ireland and a member of the Law Society’s Fitness to Practise Committee.
Mr McCarthy has also served on a number of other regulatory bodies including the Garda Síochána Complaints Board and the Regulatory Board for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors for the United Kingdom and Ireland as well as being the former Chairman of the Censorship of Publications Board.
Dr Paul Gorecki
Dr Gorecki is re-appointed by the Minister to the Council of the PSI.
Dr Gorecki has lectured, advised and published extensively on competition and regulation, including on pharmaceutical pricing, pharmacy services, and third party drug reimbursement programmes in both Canada and Ireland. He is an Economic and Social Research Institute Research Affiliate and he lectures, on a part time basis, in the Department of Economics, Trinity College Dublin.
Ms Dorothy Donovan
Ms Donovan has been selected from a Public Appointments Service panel.
Ms Donovan, LL.B., LL.M., Barrister at law has fourteen years’ experience as a practising barrister and has spent a significant portion of this time dealing with regulatory law and professional negligence cases.
She was a Council Member of CORU (The Health & Social Care Professionals Council) from 2010 to 2013. During this time she acted as Chair of the Fitness to Practise Committee, the Finance Committee and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.
Ms Donovan was a Vice-Chair of the Employment Appeals Tribunal for 7 years.
Ms Fiona Walsh
Ms Walsh has been selected from a Public Appointments Service panel.
Fiona Walsh is Investment Advisor at eDot Venture Capital and non-executive Director on the Boards of 4 organizations. From 2009 to 2014 she held positions in the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI), as the Associate Director of Surgery and then Strategy. With 20+ years leadership in the healthcare, education, and technology sectors, she is a mechanical engineer with a MBA from INSEAD and a Higher Diploma in Corporate Governance.
Since 2016 Ms Walsh has been a member of the Board of Sonas, Ireland’s largest supplier of services to people suffering from domestic abuse, and is chair of their Audit & Risk sub-committee. She is also a Board and Audit & Risk committee member of the Loughs Agency and Skillnet Ireland.
