Appointments to the Occupational Therapists Registration Board

Following Election by Registrants, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed the following persons as members of the Occupational Therapists Registration Board.  These appointments are from 17 May 2017 to 13 February 2021.

Mr Jagdish Prasad Yadav

Jagdish Prasad Yadav is a native of India who moved to Ireland at the age of 30. He has been working in the HSE since 2004. His first appointment in Ireland was as a senior occupational therapist in the Autism services in Waterford Community Services. He later moved from the Community Services to the Primary Care Services in 2008.

His key interests include the Neuro-physiology and metabolism of the brain and how it is impaired in dementia. Mr. Yadav is concerned dementia may reach epidemic levels by the middle of the century.

Mr. Yadav obtained his educational qualifications in India. These include, inter alia, a Masters Degree in Occupational therapy from the College of Allied Health Sciences, Jamia Hamdard, Hamdard University, together with a Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy from the National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttact, Orissa.

Mr Gerard Walshe

Gerard Walshe is currently employed as an Occupational Therapist Manager in the Acute Hospital Services provided at Sligo University Hospital.

Since qualifying as an Occupational Therapist he has worked in posts at different levels in Intellectual Disability, Older Persons and Acute Hospital Services. He has worked with the North Western Health Board (now HSE) since 1981.

From 1994 to 2004 he was listed as a Clinical Tutor and later Clinical Teacher on the TCD University Calendar in recognition of his contribution to Occupational Therapy student education and placement co-ordination. He currently represents the interests of Occupational Therapist Managers on the Discipline of Occupational Therapy Curriculum Committee/Programme Board for the National University Galway.

As a member of the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland (AOTI), Mr. Walshe is an active participant in the activities of the National Occupational Therapist Manager Advisory Group (NOTMAG).
