The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed Professor David Kerins as a member of the Health Products Regulatory Authority. This appointment is for the period from 22 March 2019 until 31 December 2020.
Professor David Kerins has served as a member of the Advisory Committee for Human Medicines Irish Medicines Board/Health Products Regulatory Authority since 2006.
He received a BSc in Physiology in 1981, and an MB, BAO, BCh from University College Cork in 1984. He completed sequential fellowships in Clinical Pharmacology and in Clinical Cardiology at Vanderbilt University, Nashville TN.
Following appointments as an Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Cardiology Section at Nashville VA, he was appointed as Associate Professor of Therapeutics at University College Cork and Consultant Physician at Mercy University Hospital in 2006. He served as Dean of the Medical School, UCC from 2007-2010 and as Clinical Director of Mercy University Hospital from 2012-2017.
He has research interests in anti-platelet and anti-thrombotic therapy, vascular biology with a particular focus on the renin-angiotensin and fibrinolytic pathways, and non-invasive cardiac imaging.
Professor Kerins is a fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and the British Pharmacological Society. He is a Consultant Cardiologist at Mercy University Hospital.
