THE SURGICAL SYMPHYSIOTOMY PAYMENT SCHEME

THE SURGICAL SYMPHYSIOTOMY PAYMENT SCHEME INVITES APPLICATIONS FROM WOMEN WHO COME WITHIN THE TERMS OF THE SCHEME.

On 1 July 2014, Government approved the establishment of a Scheme to provide ex-gratia payments to women who underwent a surgical symphysiotomy in any hospital in the State between 1940 and 1990. It is estimated that there are around 350 women still living who will be eligible for an award under the Scheme.   Government also agreed on 29 October, 2014 that a small number of women who underwent a pubiotomy in any hospital in the State between 1940 and 1990 and who are still alive will also be included in the Scheme.

The Minister for Health has now established the Surgical Symphysiotomy Payment Scheme and Government has approved Judge Maureen Harding Clark as Assessor for the Scheme. Judge Clark will implement the Scheme, on a confidential basis, on the Minister’s behalf.

Once an Applicant satisfies the terms of the Scheme she will receive an award.  Details of the terms of the Scheme will be available from the addresses or website below.

The Commencement Date for making applications to the Surgical Symphysiotomy Payment Scheme is Monday, 10November 2014.  Applications must be made within 20 working days  of the Commencement Date.  The Closing Date for receipt of applications is therefore Friday  5 December 2014 (at 5 p.m.).

In exceptional circumstances, the Assessor has discretion to extend the time for receipt of applications by an additional 20 working days, i.e. to Wednesday, 14 January 2015.

NO APPLICATION RECEIVED AFTER 5 P.M. ON FRIDAY, 14 JANUARY 2015 WILL BE ACCEPTED OR CONSIDERED.
