The Department of Health, like all Government Departments, is subject to the FOI Acts.
On 14 October, 2014, FOI was extended to a range of other public bodies, including bodies that get funding from the State and other semi-State bodies.
If you wish to make a request for information under FOI, fill in the application form and email us or post it to FOI Unit, Department of Health, Hawkins House, Dublin 2. D02 VW90.
We cannot accept applications over the phone.
Fees and Charges
Requests for personal information under FOI are free, unless it involves very many records. Requests for personal information includes information relating to your children or relating to deceased persons. We will need to verify your information in advance.
There’s no charge for requests for non-personal information but if there is a lot of search and retrieval work involved, we might have to charge you for that work.

Since E-Day on 19 September we no longer accept cheques from businesses to pay fees or charges. Individuals can still pay the fee by cheque or by postal order.

Information we hold
We don’t generally hold personal records. Where we do, these mainly relate to representations from members of the public to the Minister, other correspondence from individuals about our work or correspondence from health agencies regarding legal cases or medical records, as part of their statutory obligations to report certain information.
We mainly hold records relating to what we do like correspondence, memorandum, briefings, minutes or submissions.
We publish Annual Reports, Statements of Strategy, documents on policy, reports. This is how we make most of our information available to the public.
