Appointment to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed the following person as a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). 

Professor Tanya King (RGN BNS(Hons) MSc)

Prof Tanya King was appointed as Director of Nursing in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in August 2014. Prior to this she worked as a Programme Integration Manager with the System Reform Group in the HSE. Tanya held the role of Assistant Director of Nursing for a period of 10 years in St Vincent’s University Hospital during which time she was responsible for Medical and Surgical Oncology Services, the Emergency Department and Orthopaedics. In May 2012 following a re-structuring of hospital management, she was appointed Lead Assistant Director of Nursing in Surgical Services, Theatre, Critical Care and the National Liver Transplant Programme and became a member of the Executive Team.

  • Registered General Nurse, St Vincent’s University Hospital;
  • Masters of Science Health Services Management, Trinity College Dublin;
  • Degree of Bachelor of Nursing Studies;
  • Certificate in Oncological Nursing from the Royal Marsden Hospital, London;
  • Diploma in Teaching Methods, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland;
  • Diploma in Counselling, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.

As an expert Oncology Nurse Tanya was a Lecturer with the Irish Cancer Society and University College Dublin, where she lectured on a number of Oncology programmes.

Tanya was the Dublin Academic Teaching Hospital’s (DATH’s) representative on the Nurse Facilitated Discharge Education Programme Development Committee and has been a member of the Ambulance Turnaround Times Taskforce.

Tanya is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and an Executive Board member of IADNAM (Irish Association of Directors of Nursing and Midwifery). Tanya was recently appointed as Adjunct Professor of Nursing, UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems.
